Air Fryer Greek Yogurt Bagel Bites

I love carbs. I especially love breakfast type carbs like bagels 🥯 , pancakes 🥞 , waffles🧇 .. you name it! But when you’re trying to live a healthy life if those carbohydrates are not complex carbs then there really is no point in having them.

But where there is a will there is a way.. enter the bagel bite! You may have seen these little delicious bite sized treats at your local Starbucks & the so affectionately call them BANTAM BAGEL BITES. They have plain with a plain cream cheese inside and everything with a veggie cream cheese inside, & tho I love getting them from starbeezies....my pockets can’t afford to have them all the time & there had to be a healthier version somewhere & of course there are!

You can scour the internet and find tons of receipts for these homemade bagel bites, but I wanted one that was packed with protein, flavor & was healthy!! I have always been of fan of skinnytaste & her recipes ever since I had started my weight loss journey some 10 years ago - so when I saw she had a recipe I knew I would have to incorporate! I have been making these for sometime now and of course like any type of at home chef you always tweet things to your liking! So I’m sharing how I make my bagel bites that derived from skinny taste original recipe that you can find here.

You can put in any cream cheese you like and also use any types of seasoning I have a pumpkin spiced bagel bite coming up next for the fall season. The possibilities are endless. These are perfect for a quick breakfast when your on the go or if your a busy mom like me.

For the ingredients you will need the following items & this will yield about 9-10 bagel bites depending on the size.

- 1 cup of unbleached all purpose flour

- 2 teaspoons of baking powder

- 1 teaspoon of pink Himalayan sea salt

- 1 cup of non-fat Greek yogurt (I used Chobani)

- a small tub of reduced fat (1/3 less fat) chive and onion (I recommend putting about a teaspoon and a half into each bite - but you can tweak it however you see fit)

- 2 tablespoons of liquid egg whites

- Everything but the bagel seasoning from Trader Joes (or from your local whole food shop) - or you can make your own

In a bowl combine the flour, baking powder and salt together. You can mix it with a fork or whisk -- but I recommend sifting the ingredients together as it will create a nice aeration to the dough when we bake it. Next, add in your Greek yogurt and mix together using a spatula. Your dough will feel sticky when combined... don't worry we will be adding some flour as we go to help bring it together. Dust your working surface with some flour and begin kneading the dough together. You will want to do this until the dough is tacky and no longer sticky. Divide your dough to start forming your balls. You will take a piece of the dough, flatten it in a circular shape - almost like you are making a small pizza. Place your cream cheese in the center of the disc and fold the edges over it and the roll your ball around until you have a nice circular ball. Repeat this until you have all of your bites done. In a small bowl, mix your liquid egg white until they are frothy, roll your ball in the mixture. Place some of your seasoning on your working surface and then roll your ball into the seasonings. Using your air fryer, spray the basket to prevent any sticking and evenly place your bagel bites. You want to make sure there is space between them and the basket is not crowded to allow space for the air to flow. Cook your bites at 345F for about 10 minutes or until golden brown. Allow the bites to cool a little bit before you bite into them or else you will have a burned mouth and that is no fun!!

I usually eat about 2-3 for breakfast as they are pretty low in carb and high in protein. You can find the exact breakdown of the carbs and calories within skinnytaste's recipe on her blog. I hope you enjoy my tweaks to the original recipe and i look forward to sharing all the different versions I have created. Let me know what other type of recipes you would like to see on year! HAPPY EATING!
